10 Songs By The Answer You Need To Listen To

8. Strange Kinda Nothing

Being a great band is all about diversity and not being afraid to experiment with your sound whilst staying true to your roots. The Answer have showcased this ability to take their writing and playing style and implement it to songs you wouldn't expect to hear from them.

Coming off of their 5th album - Raise A Little Hell - "Strange Kinda Nothing" compliments The Answer's hard rock sound perfectly, and slots into the album at the exact right time. With traditional rock tracks either side of it, "Strange Kinda Nothing" is the halfway point in the album giving you a moment to relax, cool down, and reflect, which is what this song is all about. Not entirely acoustic throughout the 5 or so minutes, with the main guitar lick getting the electric treatment around the halfway mark, it's still beautifully subtle and well placed.

Neeson's vocal is stripped back on this one, going from the blues and soul filled voice that we have come to expect and love, to an understated style, and that is in no way a bad thing, as it's exactly what the track needed. A standard rock n' roll vocal performance would have just saturated the tone of the song, so the style that he adopts is 100% spot on perfect.

If a full acoustic version is what you'd rather hear, then you're in luck, as the Deluxe edition of the album features a fully acoustic version of the song, and that, much like this one incredibly good, and loses nothing from being fully stripped.
