10 Songs Everyone Misunderstood As Kids
1. Bryan Adams - Summer Of 69
"Summer of 69" was always fated to be one of Bryan Adams' classic tunes. From the opening guitar line to the wistful tone of the lyrics, the listener is absolutely drowning in nostalgic memories of a simpler time. Then again, the influence behind the lyric is a bit more carnal than you might think.
While 69 may just be a placeholder year because of its easy lyrical flow, Adams meant the lyrics in the dirtiest way possible. Though the song is still about the summer time, Adams has stated that the actual background of the song refers to the first time that he had sex. Many seem to take the actual number as the year 1969, but the actual use is in reference to the sexual position of the same name.
This takes the nostalgia bent the song originally had and completely changes it around. If you look even closer at the lyrics, the idea of the narrator talking about this "standing on your mama's porch" sounds even more disconcerting. Even though Adams' cowriter Jim Vallance has held onto the more nostalgic perspective of the title, the idea of sexual hi jinx will linger around this song whenever it gets played on the radio.
