10 Songs Everyone Misunderstood As Kids
2. Queen - Killer Queen
Queen have always been a band that has exuded class in their music. With songs like "Love of My Life" and "You're My Best Friend," there was a sonic sheen that the band created that gave rock a more baroque feeling. Even if you couldn't understand the meaning behind "Bohemian Rhapsody," you couldn't argue with its sheer power.
With all the added bells and whistles, one might easily assume "Killer Queen" to be about an actual monarch who rules with an iron fist. While the band might appreciate the modesty of this assumption, the titular Queen's real duties are a bit more mischievous. When pressed to discuss the song's details, Freddie Mercury actually revealed that the song was about a high-class prostitute. Rather than just listening through this woman's royal responsibilities, you're actually hearing a borderline advertisement for a girl that could show you a good time for a night.
Though Mercury insists on listeners having their own interpretation, he did go on to say that he wrote the song to prove that classy people could indulge themselves in a bit of smut as well. It may be a staple on rock radio, but it's probably best to keep the message a secret with your younger siblings around.
