10 Songs Proven To Make You Happy
8. Friday I'm In Love - The Cure
The Cure is probably one of the last bands you think of when trying to find a pick-me-up song. Down to their gothic makeup and lovelorn lyrics, any of their songs seem more likely to send you into despair rather than into euphoria. Then again, there's something about "Friday I'm In Love" that never fails to pull people out of their personal doledrums.
Coming after the band got their second big break in the late '80s, this song is one of the few songs that is just a pure declaration of love. From a structural standpoint, this might be the perfect pop song, with every single melodic line working in tandem with each other to create a sense of musical bliss, while Robert Smith goes on and on about how nothing could mean more to him that the feeling of Friday.
While every Cure song before this had dealt with love that is either lost or forelorn, this is the sound of all of your feelings being validated before your ears. Granted, the lyrics aren't necessarily the most prophetic in the rock world, but sometimes you just need a song like this to make you feel like you're on top of the world. You might not look to the guys who brought you "Lullaby" to create a pop masterpiece, but every so often the muse finds a way.
