10 Songs Proven To Make You Happy

9. You're My Best Friend - Queen

It's one thing to have an upbeat rock song, but it's harder to make a downtempo jam actually feel optimistic. Though there are many positive songs that are ballads, most of them tend to revolve around love rather than picking you up off your feet. At the same time, if there's any band who can make a downtempo ballad actually work, it has to be Queen.

Composed by bassist John Deacon, "You're My Best Friend" is one of the purest love songs ever written, with Freddie Mercury sounding like he's taken aback at every single aspect of his lover. Then again, the song may not even have to be about the more physical act of love at all. As opposed to the more subdued cuts that most rockers use, Deacon's song has a bit of a bounce to it, almost like it's ripped out of the Motown playbook.

Given the rolling rhythmic structure and the open lyrics, this doesn't even need to be about a lover per se, but even friendship, family, or even your relationship with your pet. It could very well be about your lover, but on the surface, this is one of the most subtle odes to companionship in the entire rock canon. The song has been played on the radio for decades now, but the relentless charm on display warrants a hundred more spins if it means getting you happy once again.
