10 Songs Proven To Make You Happy

5. You Get What You Give - The New Radicals

At the start of the '90s, there was no real place for any feel-good songs. As the hair metal revolution crumbled beneath our feet, the next wave of pop music was dominated by alternative music, irony, and a whole lot of internal angst. Happiness was pretty few and far between, but things started to shift towards the end of the decade.

While not as in your face as the '80s were, the tail end of the millennium brought up the mood with songs that felt optimistic for the future. Though many songs tried to define a generation, "You Get What You Give" was the one rallying cry that brought many of the angsty kids out of their shell. For as much joy is in this song, its greatest strength is the fact that it's actually pretty sad. Throughout the track, there's no ignoring the more depressing elements of life, with allusions to feeling down and out and wanting to give up.

However, The New Radicals use this to their advantage by saying that even though dark days have already come, we're looking at better times just around the corner. With the song now over 2 decades old, "You Get What You Give" is 1 part anthem, 1 part nostalgia, and all parts amazing for every second its on.
