10 Songs That Are Huge Outliers On Rock Albums

7. Money - The Dark Side Of The Moon (Pink Floyd)

If you haven't heard it all the way through, then you've definitely at least heard of the 1973 seminal release The Dark Side of the Moon.

You also probably know someone who's got the cover up on their wall to show off how cool they are.

The album was conceived to tell the story of the band's life; the pressures they faced as popular musicians and the struggles they had all had with former member Syd Barrett's mental health issues.

Songs like The Great Gig in the Sky and Us and Them are slow, ethereal tracks with the group's prog DNA flowing through their veins. And then there's Money, which is very much the opposite.

More akin to a conventional rock song, Money stands out from a mile away. Sure, it fits with the band's anti-establishment stance and their larger story, but musically it's completely different to the rest of the album.

It sounds like the group needed a single and this is what they came up with. Sure enough, the song was the album's first single and the band's first hit in the US.

What a coincidence...
