10 Songs That Are Meant To Confuse You

9. Hook - Blues Traveler

Most people who listen to the jam band scene aren't really looking for the music that you have to think too much about. As much as bands like Phish and Dave Matthews Band might be able to play their asses off, all you really need is a good enough tune to keep your audience satisfied. Though Blues Traveler did have the good tune in Hook, they gave you a lot of food for thought in the lyrical department.

Starting off from the first verse, John Popper makes it abundantly clear that what he's saying doesn't mean a damn thing, insisting that all you need is the titular hook to bring you back to the main piece. Even though this might be just a gimmicky thing to get you into the song, the other verses double down on the cynicism, as Popper continues to troll you with how insincere he's being.

By the time you finally make it to the rapid fire breakdown of the song, Popper does throw us a little bit of a bone by saying that the entire purpose of being insincere like this is to point out how easy it is to pull one over on an audience if you want to. This might be a cheeky trick to pull on someone, but at the end of the day, it's still a good message to keep in mind when out in the wild.
