10 Songs That Emotionally DESTROYED Artists
5. Iowa - Slipknot
There is no member of Slipknot who wants to revisit the Iowa sessions. Even though it might be one of the heaviest records of all time, every member of the band mentioned being strung out on drugs while they were making it, not taking care of themselves in the studio and burning themselves out way too much. If the album started with Sid Wilson unleashing his demons on 515, Corey Taylor put his body through hell to make the title track work.
Having just the basic track of the song to work with, Corey wrote the song about getting hot and heavy with a corpse, and was willing to go to some nasty places to get there. Looking to go somewhere that he was scared to go to, Corey stripped naked and went into the control room to cut his vocals, which ended with him smashing every piece of glass in the room and cutting himself up, which you actually hear on the final recording.
After almost 20 minutes of agony, Corey cleaned himself up and got what the band was looking for, nailing the song in just two takes. Granted, when you’re stabbing yourself with broken glass, two takes is more than enough to work with.
