10 Songs That End On Cliffhangers
8. Famous Last Words - My Chemical Romance
When it comes to 2000's rock, The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance is a modern marvel of the genre. Running as a rock opera, the entire record follows this man who is slowly withering away to nothing as a result of cancer. The lyrics paint vivid pictures as the Patient tries to sort out his fate, culminating in the visceral "Famous Last Words."
At this point, it's crunch time for the Patient. The man is on his deathbed, fighting for every breath he takes as he tears apart his soul. His state of mind ranges from being sick of the bright hospital lights in his face to feeling like he's on the other side of mortality. Aching to break from this existential limbo, the singer finally takes comfort in knowing that he will have his love standing next to him, whether he is just asleep with his thoughts or lying dead on his hospital bed.
While it's a great sentiment to leave the listener with, we actually never do get to find out whether our demented protagonist actually made it through his traumatic cancer scare. Even if we don't get any final conclusion on the man's demise, the song teaches us all to not be afraid of death as long as you hold onto your emotional stability.
