10 Songs That Get Better Every Time You Hear Them
5. Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
With years of it being in the rearview, it's about time that the public at large finally come around on emo music. After all, what was so wrong with bands writing about their dour and depressing moods when just a few years earlier, the grunge movement was doing more or less the exact same thing? Emo deserves to be an institution unto itself, and it's time for us to all rise for its national anthem.
Though the rest of the emo wave may have seemed whiny or pretentious, My Chemical Romance's Welcome to the Black Parade is where the scales tip into true greatness, being one of the greatest singalong choruses of all time. Even with the sinister edge of the song being about a dying cancer patient, there is so much energy from start to finish in this tune, managing to pay lip service to Queen and pulling it off with Gerard Way's far reaching vocal crescendos.
By the time that the song actually ends, those 5 minutes feels like no time at all, demanding you to spin it again and again on repeat. This is also one of the few instances where the song hasn't been deadened by the radio, instead being played every now and again amid the Green Days and Blink-182s of the world. Then again, when you have something this powerful at your disposal, it's best to use it sparingly.
