10 Songs That Got Their Own Sequels

8. Anthem - Blink-182

For anyone picking up the Blink-182 album Enema of the State, it was never because of the existential topics or anything. From the moment that you threw that record on, the sounds of All the Small Things and What's My Age Again? were anthems for the years of teenage rebellion and living by the seed of your pants for the hell of it. Although Anthem had a bit more to say than something like Dysentery Gary, that turned out to only be the test run for what was to come.

Opening right out of the gate on Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, Anthem Part Two stands as the far better song than its predecessor, if anything because it's much more fleshed out. While the first version of this song felt more like the whiny sounds of a teenager who didn't get to take the car out for the weekend, Tom Delonge is much more critical of the previous generation this time, staring their problems with war in the face and pointing the finger at them for all of their failings.

As much as the attitude is still rebellious, the key line of "if we're f*cked up, you're to blame" is one of the more thoughtful takes coming from the guys who wrote such lyrical gems as Dumpweed and D*ck Lips. Hell, this may even be the beginning of something a lot more interesting than just pop punk.
