10 Songs That Inspired Dance Crazes

2. Beyoncè - Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

Beyoncè’s "Single Ladies" is one of the most influential songs and videos of the artist’s career to date. Beyoncè’s hit celebrates female empowerment in typical Beyoncè fashion and was the top song of 2008. But it was her stylized black and white music video spotlighting the Single Ladies choreographed dance that sparked an internet dance craze.

The concept for the video originated from a 1969 Bob Fosse routine called "Mexican Breakfast" which featured Fosse dancing with two other women. Beyoncè wanted to attempt a similar dance including choreography that anyone could attempt.

The dance was created by Jaquel Knight when he was only 18 years of age and now continues to work with Beyoncè and other highly established artists. Together the pair crafted a dance that inspires awe and remains to stand the test of time.

Countless parodies and takes on the dance exist all over the internet with it still remaining an iconic routine. The dance was first parodied on SNL which featured Beyonce but soon spread across the world going viral and spawning countless versions.
