This track was stitched together using parts from a couple of different songs-in-progress, including one late night, drunken demo which might account for the slightly nonsensical lyrics and delicate vocal.

By happy accident rather than design, both those elements combine to create a song that seems to find McCartney ruminating on his grief as losing Linda to cancer and his desire to love again. “Despite too easy ride to see” is barely a comprehensible sentence but somehow it works. You suspect Paul would have struggled to write such a touching, heartfelt lyric on purpose.

A haunting piano intro leads into this delicate track with its unusual 5/4 time signature. Paul’s vocal is the star here though. He sounds ravaged and weatherbeaten. Speaking of which...
