10 Songs That Prove Wings Are A Better Band Than You Think

1. Arrow Through You

As the Seventies drew to a close McCartney seemed to slowly lose interest in Wings. Slowing sales suggest the public felt much the same.

Still, while the band might have been in its death throes you wouldn’t know it from their final album Back to The Egg. Far from their finest work it was still overflowing with creativity and ideas.

Theres are plenty of good tracks to choose from, be it the breezy radio rocker Getting Closer, the new wave tinged To You or the overblown but entertaining nonsense of Rockestra Theme.

Pick of the bunch is the effervescent pop R’n’B gem Arrow Through Me. 1978’s London Town had included Girlfriend, a slice of soul pop so perfect Michael Jackson would later cover it.(Yes, that Micheal Jackson. But this was in the distant past when he was incredible).

Arrow Through Me is even better. Inventive drumming and keyboard bass lines reminiscient of Stevie Wonder back up a soulful vocal from Paul to delightful effect.
