Let the following be a lesson to all of you future rockstars: If you're going to sing your song so high-pitched and slurred that no one is able to accurately make out the lyrics, a government official is going to investigate every aspect of your career for years afterward. Okay, so maybe that's not a guarantee, but it's what happened to The Kingsmen following the release of their best-known song, "Louie Louie." Suspicious that the unintelligible lyrics were offensive in some way--and prompted by a slew of outraged parents sending copies of what they suspected the words were--the FBI began a 31 month investigation into the song and the band who had no idea what the hell was going on. During this time, U.S. radio stations enforced a ban on the song and potentially obscene lyrics. When the investigation was finally dropped--hopefully because Edgar Hoover realized there were more important things for he and his crew to focus on--the song was allowed back on the airwaves. Despite drummer Lynn Easton still ever-so-faintly being heard shouting the word "f*ck" in the background after dropping his drumstick.
