10 Songs That Were Censored For Utterly Ridiculous Reasons

2. John Lennon - "Imagine"

"Define irony. A bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash." - Steve Buscemi, Con Air That's not bad, Steve, but this move might just top it. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, media conglomerate Clear Channel went on a song banning frenzy. Any track with lyrics even moderately related to violence or airplanes or smoke or tall buildings were to be placed on the Do Not Play list. This included obvious examples like AC/DC's "Safe In New York City" and Filter's "Hey Man, Nice Shot," but it also listed more than 160 others. And not all of them made sense. Why ban "Devil With a Blue Dress On" or "Dancing In the Street?" And, most egregiously, why would you choose to prohibit John Lennon's "Imagine," the ultimate song about world peace?? Unfortunately, Clear Channel chose to rob the listening public of a song that only wanted to heal some of their wounds.
