10 Songs That Were Censored For Utterly Ridiculous Reasons

7. Bobby "Boris" Pickett - "The Monster Mash"

In terms of overall scariness, "The Monster Mash" ranks somewhere right above a haunted house operated by 6-year olds and just below losing your car keys. It's a Halloween staple that gets played one day each year because it's kitschy and fun and people really seem to dig that bit about "graveyard smashes." But when it was initially released, apparently the listening public just freaked right the hell out. Or, at least, that's what the BBC thought everyone would do, which is why it was banned in 1962. The song was deemed "too morbid" and exorcised from the radio to "protect sensitive listeners" from the horrifying nature of a song about dancing goblins. It wasn't until Pickett re-released the song in 1973 that it got back into regular rotation on the airwaves.
