Hailing from London, the trio began life covering popular music of the day but soon realised that their surroundings and lifestyle required a dirtier, more corrosive sound. Swiftly gaining an underground following, Crushed Butler cultivated an unsavoury, metalised sound all of their own but it was one which confused and alienated the music labels who saw them perform. To put it bluntly, no one wanted them. Which is baffling, as their Proto-Garage-Punk-Metal noise is nothing if not implosive, insistent and incendiary. "Factory Grime" epitomises these superlatives perfectly and although the band only survived for just 3 short years, the fact that "Factory Grime" is now available for all to hear (their work remained 'lost' until 1998's first release on 10-inch vinyl) is something to be grateful for. Downbeat, grinding and inspired by their industrialised, polluted surroundings, their bleak, ominous riffs are counter-balanced by their attitude; the band and their situation seamlessly coalesce to conjure images of grey, hapless times and limited opportunity. Punk and Metal were hinted at on "Factory Grime" but it would take some ne'er do well's from Birmingham to take the next leap into the unknown......
I love Heavy Metal, and generally anything that involves a guitar and loud noises, so I figured it was about time I put all the useless information in my head to good use and start writing a few things. Most of the time I'll be writing nonsense but occasionally I may surprise myself and appear half-way knowledgable.....but you can be the judge of that. Thanks for your fleeting attention!
