1. Rolling In The Deep - Adele
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBRUkdQa6Is The single that made 2011, rocketed to the top of the charts around the world, but failed to do so in Adele's native country. What?! Like never before this century, Adele's music transcended generations and bucked the downward trend of record sales. Her mega-hit album 21 became the fourth best selling album in the UK ever. In addition, it is the highest certified album in the UK too, going platinum 16 times. Now, Adele has had some incredible hits in the past five years. Arguably, Someone Like You made an even bigger impact than Rolling In The Deep. But it is undeniable that Deep is a marker in the sound of this decade's popular music. Adele single handedly took on the industry and won. She destroyed naysayer assumptions that multi-platinum and in fact diamond certification was a thing of the past. Her influence on global record sales tailed off just months ago and her absence from the charts has been highlighted as a prime reason for a drop in recent record sales. Unbelievable then, that the lead single from 21 only made it to number 2.
