10 Songs Written About Other Musicians

3. Heart Songs - Weezer

Most of Weezer's fanbase wishes they could forget the more tragic elements of the album Make Believe. As opposed to just sticking to their guns and making a good nerd rock album, most songs like Beverly Hills felt like Rivers Cuomo was just trying to cash in and make some money with a sound that was popular at the time. It was time to go back to their roots, which was quite apparent on Heart Songs.

Appearing on the Red Album, this little acoustic jam is a nice send-up to all of the music that Rivers loved as a kid. From the start, it's almost hard to nail down exactly who this song is about, given the references to everyone from John Lennon to Gordon Lightfoot to Quiet Riot. Though some of the musical choices may be questionable depending on your taste, it really gives you a look into Rivers as the young rock fan, looking to devour any time of rock he could get his hands on.

However, there is a little more lip service paid to the arrival of Nirvana, with Rivers going on to talk about how he formed a band specifically after hearing Nevermind for the first time. Snobby references aside, this is still a great mellow song that acts as a bookmark for all of Rivers' heroes throughout the years.
