10 Songs You Didn't Realise Sample Other Songs
7. Cafeteria- Jakey
Though perhaps more known for his YouTube presence, Jakey (or NakeyJakey on the video-sharing platform) is quite the music artist.
Covering themes like home and love that we can all relate to, what Jakey's discography loses in size, it truly makes up for it in quality. A song that upholds this feat is Cafeteria, and despite what you may think, it doesn't focus on underwhelming sandwiches and grumpy lunch ladies.
After a somewhat obscure opening whereby he uses audio from the Disney Channel Original Movie, My Date With The President's Daughter, he goes on to sample the '80s hip hop tune The Power by Snap!
Not only does the track wonderfully utilise the jagged, stutter-y hook, but it pairs it with a piano melody that gives the sample so much more depth than the original.
The inclusion is so recognisable that, like Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay or Misirlou by Dick Dale, it's increasingly hard to know who the original was by. The Power's monstrous popularity has eclipsed the artist themselves and, to many, Jakey's spin on the familiar formula is one that will be remembered the most fondly.
