10 Songs You Didn't Realise Sample Other Songs

8. Everybody - Mac Miller

The 2020 album Circles is an emotional experience given the tragic passing of artist Mac Miller.

Released posthumously, the album features a collection of simply fantastic tunes, and though each warrants a listen, it's the sixth track, Everybody, that stands out amongst the rest.

Sampling the chorus of mid-'70s hit Everybody's Gotta Live from the rock band Love, Miller's dulcet tones work wonders developing the sample - and indeed the song itself - into something truly great.

The heavy emphasis on piano and passive percussion beat makes the track thrive, and despite the chorus taking up much of the track's duration, it somehow never feels repetitive. Layering the '70s song into the chill-rap vibe of the album makes it feel so very natural, so it's little wonder that it isn't common knowledge that the track features such a heavy sample.

The original Everybody's Gotta Live was initially released as a bonus track on Arthur Lee's debut album Vindicator, though it was later included on side 2 of Love's Reel to Real.

The song's themes have so much more meaning given the unfortunate circumstances of Miller's passing, and listening to the track in 2022 reminds us of the talent that we lost.
