10 Songs You Didn't Realise Sample Other Songs

5. Bootylicious - Destiny's Child

As Destiny's Child ascended to the very top of the pop music food chain around the turn of the century, memorable songs like Survivor, Independent Women, and Bootylicious echoed through the music industry, and as such their popularity spread like wildfire.

The latter, while an iconic track in and of itself, draws clear inspiration from an unexpected source: the glorious Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks. Musically, its opening is indistinguishable from the early '80s tune, right up until the record scratching effects give it a healthy dose of '90s R&B flavour.

Destiny's Child delivered this hit in 2001, some twenty years since the Fleetwood Mac star brought the riff to the mainstream, and as they garnished it with the familiar feminine sass that the trio were familiar with, the heavy influence of Edge of Seventeen seems to fade into the background.

Parents will be more than familiar with the Stevie Nicks original, as it was surely an anthem of their youth and something that provokes so much nostalgia. Bootylicious does the very same thing to us millennials.

Just like the white winged dove, Destiny's Child sings a song that stands the test of time, from 1981 to 2001 and even to today.
