10 Songs You Didn't Realise Sample Other Songs

3. Rise - Gabrielle

It seems that the Minnesota-born folk-icon, Bob Dylan, is the writer of all the world's greatest songs. From Adele's Make You Feel My Love to All Along The Watchtower made famous by Jimi Hendrix, Dylan is the brains behind so many immense tunes.

One such track that had become beloved since its release is 1973's Knockin' On Heaven's Door whereby, after a pit stop in the 80's when Guns 'n' Roses temporarily took custody, the song's melancholic, acoustic opening cropped up once again on Gabrielle's Rise at the turn of the century.

The British soul singer found success in the early-mid 1990's with offerings like Dreams and Give Me A Little More Time, and after a short break she returned to the charts, wielding a Dylan-sampled song to boot.

Layering a harmonious gospel, humming over those 4 iconic chords gave the cosy, reflective song an added touch of true class. It wonderfully transformed a simple, yet honest folk-rock song into something that felt distinctive in its own right.

To say this about a sample from Bob Dylan's extensive discography means Rise is quite the achievement, and even more so when the man himself approved of the track's quality.
