10 Songs You Didn't Realise Sample Other Songs

2. Unorthodox - Wretch 32 Ft. Example

A defining track for an entire generation, Fools Gold by The Stone Roses is a beloved tune of the 'Madchester' scene. It's a delightfully bouncy tune that wields an immensely catchy melody that effortlessly balances Ian Brown's moody vocals with something more uplifting than the band's norm.

It's little wonder, then, that London-based rapper, Wretch 32, took inspiration from the song's iconic riff for the verses on hit song Unorthodox featuring Example. In doing so, the pair forged an unforgettable rap track that both you and your dad can appreciate.

The sample feels as though it's hidden in plain sight. The song rests upon it, yet it feels so very natural that it's hard for youngsters to grasp that the undeniably enjoyable tune has been used before.

In any case, Unorthodox feels like a bridge between the euphoric clubs of Manchester and the humble streets of London. Ousting Brown's monotone voice and injecting Wretch 32's playful vocals and empowering, confident lyrics gave the song a brand new life, and as such it touched a new genration in an entirely different area of the UK.

Unorthodox, we call *someone else's* shots.
