10 Songs You Know From The First SECOND

8. Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley

There have been plenty of song intros that can be thought of as epic. Whether it's the opening of something like Bohemian Rhapsody or the guitar riff of Smoke on the Water, dozens of songs don't so much fade in as make as they announce themselves right out of the gate. Epic is only one facet though...trolling is a whole different mindset.

Upon its initial release, there's no doubt that Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up had its fans, but this progenitor of the meme has become one of the most recognizable beginnings ever since the invention of the Internet. Long after Astley's star had faded from view, Internet trolls all over the world pick up on the song's opening as the beginnings of the Rick Roll, which would end up giving the entire song a resurgence.

Want to see the latest trailer for the new Avengers movie? Nope, Rick Rolled. How about the next music video from your favorite artist? Nope, Rick Rolled. Pretty soon, one of the more forgettable dance hits of the late '80s became the bud of jokes for many a gullible viewer in its day. It may have caused more annoyance in audiences than pleasure, but Never Gonna Give You Up will forever be known as the one song that trolls were made for.
