10 Songs You're Not Supposed To Understand
8. The Rage - Judas Priest
Judas Priest have always been proud to fly the flag for all things metal. Ever since they broke out on the scene with Sad Wings of Destiny, the band were setting the standard for heavy metal lyrics, with songs about death, destruction, and hell raising whenever you had the chance.
British Steel pretty much has the Priest formula down to a science, but "The Rage" is a detour in more ways than one.
Starting off with a reggae beat, the actual lyric sheet seems like its preparing you for a stomping track, with Rob Halford growling about being born from a fireball. Right when you think you're about to be taken on a ride, things start to get weird pretty quickly, as Halford intones about paying the price (for what?) and a tiger in a cage.
Maybe it's something that only the loyal Priest fans would get, but even Halford has said that he doesn't have any idea as to what he's singing about when he listened to the song on playback.
While these guys have written some badass anthems like "You've Got Another Thing Comin" and "Breaking the Law," the fact that this song made the cut feels like the band were just running on empty at the end of a session.
