10 Stars Of Rock & Metal With Famous Second Bands
7. Josh Homme
Josh Homme is well known as the singer and guitarist of Queens Of The Stone Age, selling over 3 million records and featuring a diverse line up of musicians over the years, including Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) and Dave Grohl. Homme also moonlights in the rock super-group, Them Crooked Vultures with Grohl and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, plays drums in Eagles Of Death Metal, and has produced a diverse range of acts from his home studio, including Arctic Monkeys.
Queens of the Stone Age broke through with their second album, Rated R (2000), which featured the song Feel Good Hit of the Summer, and their worldwide success was then cemented with their follow up, Songs for the Deaf (2002) - which is their most successful album, selling over 1 million copies and featuring popular tracks such as No One Knows and Go With The Flow.
But Josh had an earlier career which really formed the basis for the success he would achieve with Queens, as guitarist and founding member of the Californian desert-based stoner-rock band Kyuss.
Kyuss released four albums starting with Wretch (1991) and ending with … And The Circus Leaves Town (1995) in a highly prolific period that saw them influence and inspire the stoner sub-genre, before Homme stepped out of the shadow of vocalist John Garcia; taking on the role of lead singer and a slightly more commercial direction in his own band, which has gone on to far exceeded the level of success Kyuss were able to achieve.
