6. Black Moth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28cILDmETbg Black Moth are a musical hybrid of grunge, stoner rock and doom metal all combined into one. Hailing from Leeds, this five piece have been weaving this winning combination of genre fusion for the past five years and have earned themselves a following thanks to their ferocious live shows. Their recording output to date has proved to be a very fruitful one too for fans of doom-ridden, noise disorientation. Their fantastic 2012 debut album The Killing Jar displayed a band that had the songwriting prowess of a group ten years ahead of them, with songs like the bass-creeping menace 'Spit Out Your Teeth' or the fuzzed out bruiser 'The Plague Of Our Age' hitting harder than most other bands of their ilk. Their latest album release Condemned To Hope ups the ante further with its refined songwriting, as highlighted on the high-velocity, skull crusher 'White Lies' or the riff-centric banger 'Set Yourself Alight'. The music is perfectly accompanied by glorious vocal melodies courtesy of their vixen vocalist Harriet Bevan, giving songs like career highlight 'Looner' an almost hypnotizing effect that lends itself nicely to the hazy instrumental backdrop already in place. One aspect of the stoner rock scene that Black Moth differs on is their personable lyricism. They are unafraid to tackle more earth bound themes compared to that of their genre compatriots, with songs like 'Tumbleweave' or 'The Undead King Of Rock 'N' Roll' demonstrating the confidence of a band that doesn't need to veer into outer space for their lyrical inspiration. One of the UK's finest stoner rock groups to come to prominence in the current decade, if they can keep this up the only thing they will be condemned to is success. Key Tracks: Blackbirds Fall, The Plague Of Our Age, Tumbleweave, Looner, White Lies
