3. Uncle Acid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zDT_uGYdVs Out of all the bands on this list, one band who have really hit a consistently prolific stride so early on in their tenure is the fantastic Uncle Acid. They've got it all, whether it be their killer riff work or their heavy, on-point stick work, this lot sculpt their sound into a vintage horror show through the use of old-school techniques. In just five years Uncle Acid have released three crushing LP's, showing that they take their vintage philosophy all the way, recording at speedy rates akin to their genre's forefathers. The group have got a distinctively vintage sound that harks back to the analogue age of recording with songs like 'Death's Door' and 'Melody Lane' benefiting from this old-school adaptation. Some may find the production on songs like 'Poison Apple' quite windswept with its narrow sound register, but they pull it off by successfully merging it with a hammer horror movie atmosphere which perfectly compliments their retro approach to songwriting. This distinctive yet familiar sound really comes to fruition on songs like the soaring, snail speed, smasher 'Mt. Abraxas' or the no-nonsense, riff shredder 'Mind Crawler',the production fleshing out an already brutish sound. Aside from the various production tricks used on the instrumentation, the vocal display courtesy of frontman Kevin Starrs also goes through the effects rack. His psychedelic, Lennon inspired vocal melodies are at their absolute peak on the floating, sitar twirler 'Follow The Leader' or the psychotic, ghost train frightener 'Murder Nights, his voice floating above the fiery depths of the instrumentation, conjuring up a nightmarish vision through this contrast of artistic stylings. It's no wonder Black Sabbath chose them as the support for their world tour because Uncle Acid display the same rip roaring guitar fury and menacing lyrical content that their rock idols possessed. Key Tracks: Death's Door, Mt. Abraxas, Poison Apple, Waiting For Blood, Murder Nights
