10 Strongest Voices In Alternative Rock Music
5. Eddie Vedder
When guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament formed their new band Mookie Blaylock following the death of their Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, they searched high and low for an unknown singer that could take their sound in a new direction. Eddie Vedder turned out to be their man, and after a handful of local Seattle shows they changed their name to Pearl Jam.
The band hit the ground running when they released their debut album Ten (1991), instantly becoming one of the biggest worldwide stars in the alternative rock scene. Vedder’s voice was strikingly powerful, and the album that launched him was near perfect with classic tracks such as Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy and the melancholic Black, showcasing his range as an incredibly strong singer.
Eddie quickly established himself as the face of Pearl Jam, and their success in the nineties was soon on another level as they released a string of fine albums including Vs (1993) and Vitalogy (1995). Over 30 years later, the band are still touring and releasing new music, with the core of Pearl Jam remaining constant with Vedder, Gossard, Ament, and their second guitarist Mike McCready ever-present, and only the musician sitting on the drum stool changing from time to time.
