10 Surprising Music Videos You Never Expected From The Song

9. I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys

The late 1990s were a great time for fans of hunky looking young men with floppy hair and passable singing voices. The boy band revolution was in full swing and leading the charge were the Backstreet Boys, the hunkiest and floppiest of them all.

BSB established themselves as juggernauts with their 1999 single I Want It That Way. The guys all get together to sing about how much they love their girl and how much they value their relationship.

It's a love song, plain and simple. So, why was the music video set on a runway?

The video opens with the five lads standing on some tarmac at Los Angeles International Airport. Then they go inside and dance around a bit. Then they walk through some corridors. Then they sing the song to some fans who are just there.

Where's the girl in the song? Where's the romance? Where is any semblance of story whatsoever?

You could say that all pop videos don't really tell a story, but you'd think a song this clearly about love would feature some sort of hint towards that in its video.

Maybe the band were just after free plane tickets.
