10 Surprising Music Videos You Never Expected From The Song
6. Trying Not To Love You - Nickelback
As you would expect from the band that gave us Someday and Gotta Be Somebody, Nickelback aren't immune to a bit of schmaltz every now and then.
One of the most vomit-inducingly sincere tracks on their 2011 album Here and Now is Trying Not to Love You, the story of a man desperately trying to move on from a past relationship. It's pretty by the numbers, but it's enjoyable in an earnest kind of way.
That is, until you watch the absolutely god-awful music video.
Set in a coffee shop, the video features a barista called Bud attempting to win the affections of a female customer with latte foam art. Bud is played by Seinfeld's Jason Alexander, and Brooke Burns from Baywatch is his love interest. They both deserved better.
The video is cheesy, cheap-looking, and painfully unfunny. It takes a song about what sounds like a pretty intense heartbreak and turns it into the soundtrack for a low-effort goofball comedy.
The song isn't amazing or anything, but it really was done dirty by this utterly foul attempt a music video. This makes the one for Photograph look like Gone with the Wind.
