10 Terrible Albums By Legendary Music Bands

6. Self Portrait - Bob Dylan

Not every musician who makes it to the top of the musical food chain is really willing to play the game of the industry. Most of these artists are just people who want to play music for themselves, and hearing the press talk them up like the next cutting edge artist of their generation is just giving you a mantle of pressure that you don't really need. Bob Dylan seemed to know that kind of pressure all too well, so he figured that it would be better to destroy his career on his own terms.

While Self Portrait is far from the worst thing in the world, the entire mindset that Bob had during the production was to step away from the Voice of a Generation persona that had been built up around him for the past few years. And he certainly delivers here, with songs that range from weird country sounding songs to obscure covers like taking on Blue Moon just for the hell of it. The man behind Like a Rolling Stone is not going to show up here, taking the basic essentials of rock and roll and just trying to make something a little more authentic to him.

As much as outlets like Rolling Stone tore this album to shreds, Self Portrait did exactly what it set out to do, giving you a look at Bob Dylan as a human being rather than the rock and roll prophet who would lead you into the future. Dylan had planned for this album to bring the days of critics dissecting his work to an end, and with the songs on here, it almost worked.
