10 Terrible Albums By Legendary Music Bands
5. Hot Space - Queen
As the '70s rock scene entered the next decade, there was no doubt that Queen would thrive in the age of MTV. The moves that Freddie Mercury made on stage were already made for the visual medium, and having songs like Another One Bites the Dust under their belt ushered them into the pop world with no trouble at all. With the rest of the pop world going in a similar direction though, Hot Space was the moment where the band bit off a little more than they could chew.
The appeal of Another One Bites the Dust may have worked for one song, but hearing the band trying to turn their entire sound into disco wasn't really the best call, with Freddie's vocals not really cutting the mustard in this genre and getting a little more awkward on songs like Body Language. While the back half of the project is more in line with what you would expect from a Queen album, hearing the band try to have the same template as an album like Thriller really doesn't work, with synthesizers making the project sound incredibly dated.
There are still some amazing songs on here like Under Pressure, but Brian May and Roger Taylor have both not been kind to the record in recent years, thinking it was either a misfire or saying that they weren't fans of the more disco tinged rock and roll they were being asked to play. Queen are free to do whatever they want, but since Freddie already had enough charisma to dominate rock and roll, there's no reason to go to another genre for a quick paycheck.
