10 Things Only Megadeth Fans Will Understand
7. Actually Kinda Liking Some Songs On Risk
Released in August 1999, Risk was the eighth studio album released by Megadeth, and the subject of massive debate among fans and critics alike.
Mustaine intended the record to be much more radio friendly than their previous material, which was often too heavy for typical rock radio. It's entirely likely that Mustaine was chasing the commercial success achieved by Metallica, who by this time had found chart success with songs like The Memory Remains, The Unforgiven II and Fuel. Unfortunately for Megadeth, the singles released from Risk (Insomnia, Crush 'Em and Breadline) while decently successful, were nowhere near as popular as hoped. In fact, negative fan reaction caused the band to return to a heavier sound in their next album The World Needs A Hero. All that is to say, actually kinda liking some material on Risk is often met by intense fan scepticism and ridicule. But come on, there are songs on the album that are pretty damn awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV1-MA_xyx8
