Metallica don't have the reputation for being the most level-headed bunch of dudes, so the fact that Dave Mustaine actually got kicked out of the band (he was lead guitarist briefly before Kirk Hammett) says a lot. As Metal Blade Records' Brian Slagel explained, "[Mustaine would] get wasted and become a real crazy person, a raging megalomaniac, and the other guys just couldn't deal with that after a while." On one occasion, Mustaine poured beer on then-bassist Ron McGovney's instrument, and when McGovney used it, he was badly electrocuted.

Mustaine found Christianity in 2003, but that's only made him worse. Religion and metal aren't mutually exclusive - Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Halford both consider themselves Christians - but Mustaine has embraced the worst aspects of his new religion, showing support for Rick Santorum, vocally opposing gay marriage and accusing Barack Obama of staging mass shootings. Clearly, this is a man who wants no part of decency.
