10 Things You Didn't Know About The Beatles' Sgt Pepper Album

1. Sgt. Pepper's Tapes Are 700 Hours Long

A number of books on The Beatles state that recording Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band took up over 700 hours of tape, and that shouldn't surprise anyone. The album is so intricate in its nature and so unlike the two guitars, bass guitar and drums standard that had become expected of The Beatles that it's even more of a surprise that the total tape isn't longer.

Think about it. Multiple tracks include a string orchestra. Some include horns. Even a wind section was needed at some points. A Day In The Life alone probably took at least 100 hours.

Crazy amount of time aside, the efforts were worth it. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band has been around for 50 years and given how many people still enjoy it today, here's to another 50 coming up!
