10 Things You Didn't Know About The Beatles' Sgt Pepper Album
2. The Album Was Born Out Of A Hiatus
Not many people know this, but Sgt. Pepper's great success may have to do with the fact that it was born out of a hiatus by the band.
Let me set the stage. The Beatles wrapped up an international tour in August 1966, were all exhausted and decided to take some time off.
A lot happened in that three month hiatus. McCartney composed the score for the film The Family Way. Ringo Starr moved into a new house. Harrison continued to master the sitar. Lennon, in an odd turn of events, went on to star as Musketeer Gripweed in the World War II comedy How I Won The War.
Each of the Fab Four recharged their batteries in the best way they saw fit and the results on Sgt. Pepper indicate just that. The band never toured again and with more time to devote to composition, it's no wonder that the second half of The Beatles' work is some of the best.
