10 Things You Didn't Know About The Black Keys

10. They Have A Love-Hate Relationship With Advertising

Back in the early days of The Black Keys, you could have been forgiven for having absolutely no idea who they were. For a good few years, they remained largely under the radar, due in part to their initial refusal to license any of their music to any third-parties. Wary of alienating their growing fan base, the duo repeatedly turned down offers of six-figure sums to have their songs appear in advertisements. Their first offer - for a Mayonnaise commercial - was turned down in spite of the fee being more than "both of our parents make in a year combined". Now though, you'd be hard-pressed to find a TV advert that doesn't have The Black Keys' music in it. Although they still remain picky about where they let it appear, it's been featured in the likes of TV shows and video games an awful lot since the release of 2010's Brothers. In fact, ironically they were Warner Bros. most licensed band of that year.
