10 Things You Never Knew About Green Day
8. Billie's Workhorse Guitar
Every so often you have those guitarists whose instrument feels like an extension of their body. Whether it's Jimmy Page's trademark Les Paul or Brian May's Red Special, the meld between player and instrument is so tight that there's pretty much no way to imagine them without it. Though most punk rock instruments are known to be pretty dispensable, Billie Joe Armstrong actually does have one classic instrument to his name.
Despite his affinity for Les Paul Jr.'s as of late, the one guitar Armstrong has kept going strong throughout the years has been his signature Fender Stratocaster nicknamed Blue. Bought by Armstrong when he was still in his teenage years, this guitar has been all over Dookie and most of the group's classic '90s records. As opposed to just locking it away for sentimental value, this guitar has remained consistent across the band's tenure, without ever really having to change any of the hardware outside of their infamous performance at Woodstock '94.
While it rarely sees the live stage nowadays, Blue has been brought out on occasion when Armstrong starts tearing through Dookie-era material, like when they played their breakthrough smash live from cover to cover back in 2014. Even with years of wear and tear on it, Blue is one of those few guitars whose legend might loom larger than some fellow rock stars.
