10 Things You Never Knew About Green Day
6. Tre Cool Was Originally Set to be a Clown
If you ever caught a glimpse of Green Day live on stage, chances are you're somewhat acquainted with the antics of Tre Cool. Being one of the few wildmen behind the drummer's seat in recent years, Tre is very much crafted in the style of Keith Moon, with a loud presence and a humorous take on nearly everything he does. However, there's a little bit of explanation to the madness behind Tre's antics.
Even though Tre got his start as a drummer early in life, his first attempts at higher education were not the typical college scenario. In lieu of the typical courses, Tre originally enrolled in clown college before opting to stay in his band the Lookouts, after which he shortly found his way into Green Day. Though the idea of a rockstar clown isn't completely out of ordinary, all of the elements of a great entertainer is all there in Tre's playing.
From the humorous piss takes he delivers on songs like Dominated Love Slave to the wild way of asserting himself onstage, nearly every single one of Tre's antics could fit just as well if it were used in a basic slapstick routine. While the clown community might be worse off for it, Tre's calling in music gave the rock world one of its most engaging entertainers.
