10. Green Day- American Idiot (2004)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPLvBO_2Gn0 First up are the ever-divisive Californian punks Green Day. Taking heed from long-declared idols and inspirations such as The Who, the trio set aside their regenerative three-chord sound (which up until that point had, it must be said served them extremely well), in order to release this daringly yet unmistakably progressive album back in 2004. Entitled American Idiot, the thought provoking final work took little under a year to complete, and tells the stirring tale of central protagonist 'Jesus of Suburbia'. An antihero through and through, Jesus' tale unfolds over the course of nine tracks/segments; six of which run over the five minute mark. Breaking the band to a whole new audience upon its release, the album remains a popular talking point within recent guitar-based music history.
