6. Playing For Cage The Elephant When They Had No Drummer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlqptnyB1LM Back in 2011 when the Foo Fighters were touring the 'Wasting Light' record, the band invited Kentucky five-piece Cage the Elephant on the road to support them for a few arena dates across North America in October. Roughly a week into the tour though, drummer Jared Champion's appendix burst, resulting in him being rushed to hospital to get emergency surgery, placing the future of the tour in considerable doubt. The next day, the band were rehearsing with one of their roadies, but it wasn't going well, leaving the band fearing the worst. Fortunately, the band's manager had had a call from a certain Mr. Dave Grohl, asking if the band still needed a drummer and would they be up for playing together. The band obviously accepted his gracious offer, and went on to play a handful of dates with the former Nirvana sticksman at the drum stool. Describing the experience, guitarist Lincoln Parrish said, "I had to pinch myself. I turned around and Dave Grohl is playing the drums. It's an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Nobody can replace Jared. But it's Dave f**king Grohl. If you're going to be replaced by anybody, it might as well be the best."
