10 Times Dave Grohl Was An Absolute Legend

4. Sticking It To The Westboro Baptist Church

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWhXs9llCK4#t=197 In August 2011, the Foos posted this humorous video - entitled 'Hot Buns' - advertising their upcoming tour. The video showed the band dressed as overly-hetero truckers, only to pull into a rest stop and engage in some hot 'n' steamy shower action. It was a hit online, and really carried on the band's incredible tradition for brilliant music videos, but was also a tongue-in-cheek look at 'life on the road' and the idea that 'what goes on tour, stays on tour'. The next day, the party-poopers from the infamous Westboro Baptist Church announced plans to picket the Foo's Kansas City gig, for "encouraging fornication, adultery, and fags". The Christian fundamentalists have picketed at other celebrity events, and, worst of all, the funerals of dead soldiers. Needless to say, the band weren't going to just roll over and take it. So they responded in the only way they knew; with complete and utter brilliance, dressing up in the same gear that they wore in the 'Hot Buns' video before hiring a truck to carry them right in front of the venue they were playing at that evening. They then launched into a rousing rendition of the song that can be heard in first half of that video (on the radio), 'Keep It Clean'. It shut most of the protesters up, and attracted an impromptu crowd of hundreds of Foo fans and WBC-haters. The reverse protest made headlines around the world, as Grohl told the crowd, "God bless America; home of the free, land of the brave. It takes all kinds; Men loving women, women loving men, men loving men, and women loving women." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e5hRLbCaCs
