10 Times Hard Rock Bands Went Acoustic (And Nailed It)
5. Seasons - Chris Cornell
As the grunge scene gave way to new and interesting musical styles, Soundgarden was the worthy successor to Led Zeppelin that we didn't know we wanted. With each passing track, the band came up with one meaty riff after another, as Chris Cornell shrieked his lungs out with the fury of a rock god. Then again, even the best of Zeppelin imitators knew when to take it down a notch.
After fiddling with an acoustic guitar one day, Cornell came up with a rolling pattern that became "Seasons," which he ended up writing about the feelings of isolation he had after the Seattle scene blew up.
Though not everyone knew what is was like to live in the rainy city of the Northwest, this reflective cut shows Cornell seeing all of his familiar sights being stripped away in favor of the more mainstream attention brought on by MTV.
Not wanting to depart too much from Soundgarden's original sound, Cornell ended up contributing this song to the Singles soundtrack alongside fellow Seattle acts like Mudhoney and Pearl Jam. Though it remained a hidden gem for years, the song has taken on a new life as a beloved deep cut, with many people performing it as a tribute to Cornell after his untimely passing.
No one will really knew what Cornell was going through, but "Seasons" has stayed with fans as a beacon of light from the greatest voice in grunge.
