10 Times Hard Rock Bands Went Acoustic (And Nailed It)

4. Skin And Bones - Foo Fighters

From their first record onward, The Foo Fighters were always focused on straight ahead rock music. Ever since Kurt Cobain's untimely passing, Dave Grohl's formation of the Foos always seemed to be about the celebration of rock and roll, with loud guitars and screamed vocals being a bit of a calling card. By the time we reached the '00s though, change was definitely in the air.

With the release of the band's double record In Your Honor, fans were treated to two different sides of the band, as one disc contained straight ahead rock tunes and another being comprised of mellow acoustic cuts.

Though any song on the back half of this record could have made this list, the most emblematic song of this change has to be Skin and Bones, a one off which became the title of the Foos' acoustic tour to promote this album.

As Dave plucks away at his six-string, the instrumentation that unfolds around him is unlike anything ever heard on a Foos' track, with strings being infused with accordions and pretty much everything that makes Grohl tick.

Even with the more acoustic foundation, the song builds to a pretty impressive climax, as the subtle electric guitars rise in prominence as the weird harmonies cascade across your ears. The Foos may not have stayed an all-acoustic act for long, but it was one hell of a ride while it lasted.
