6. Action Movie Songs

Around the time of Metallica’s dark days, they were commissioned by Hollywood Records to make a track for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 2 movie. I Disappear is somewhat of an underrated gem from the band, and it is rarely played as part of their live repertoire. While the song itself isn’t bad, the movie for which it was written is. Mission: Impossible 2 is the lowest rated of the franchise, receiving an audience score of 43%.

For Megadeth however, they contributed their awesome Angry Again to the 1993 action flick, Last Action Hero. While the movie only received marginally better reviews, receiving a 47% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Last Action Hero has become something of an Arnold Schwarzenegger cult classic.

In terms of the song, both are hidden gems in each respective band’s catalogues, however, in terms of appeal, Arnie surpasses Cruise in the action category. Not only that, but Angry Again is placed within a pivotal moment of Last Action Hero, playing during the opening credits of the fictitious Schwarzenegger film, Jack Slater IV.

It suits the atmosphere, complete with a destructive title sequence. Whereas Metallica’s efforts were used solely for the ending credits of Mission: Impossible 2. Pitiful.
