10 Times Musicians Trolled Their Audience
6. Eeyore - Slipknot
Coming to the end of Slipknot's debut record, most metalheads had already been subjected to some of the most savage music to come out of the nu metal movement. Though the closer "Scissors" left things on a slightly ominous note, "Eeyore" was yet another metallic juggernaut that could start the pit up again. While Maggots were euphoric, the band had much more juvenile intentions behind the words.
Corey Taylor has mentioned that the inspiration for the track came from a concert goer who would dive into the mosh pit at their show and ruin everyone's fun. Calling him Thor because of his long blonde hair, the band put up with him for a few shows before the audience eventually turned on him and beat him senseless. Amused at the comeuppance, Taylor took "Eeyore" as an opportunity to depict "Thor" as the chauvinistic brute that he really was.
With the song being relegated to a hidden track on the record, only the true fans were able to single out this song as something special at first. Even for all its aggression, this song really shows how much Slipknot cares about the people who enjoy their music as opposed to the mindless jocks. And you can bet your ass that "Thor" is a lot more careful when entering the pit nowadays.
